Mary Ann Rankin is the Senior Vice President and Provost at the University of Maryland.  As the chief academic officer of the University, she is responsible for guiding the academic development and direction of the institution in accordance with the University’s mission; for overseeing the development, review, and implementation of all academic policies and regulations; and for the budgetary management of campus academic resources and programs.

A lifelong educator, Mary Ann previously served as Chairman of Biological Sciences and Dean of the College of Natural Sciences at the University of Texas at Austin, where she was instrumental in major fundraising efforts, capital projects, developing new, innovative academic programs and in significantly strengthening major research programs.

Prior to joining the University of Maryland, Mary Ann also served as President and CEO of the National Math and Science Initiative.
